So today while driving into work i heard something crazy on the radio! It was one of those shows where you were supposed to call in if you have an herbal remedy or helpful hint to share. The D.J. had a crazy one! She had a tip for cooking corn on the cob for a lot of guests. Wrap them in foil and throw them in the dish washer on the sanitize cycle with no soap! How crazy is that? Have any of you heard of this?
Another was for carpet stains. You are supposed to dampen the spot and dump salt directly on the spot. Let is dry and than vacuum it up. Many callers agreed with this. Then there was the stick a penny directly on bee stings to take away the sting. Something about the copper?
So that got me thinking, do I have any helpful hints to share!? And i don't, at least none that i can think of. So, i thought that in celebration of my 10,000th visitor i would host a Random Act of Kindness give away. If you leave me a comment listing a helpful hint I will pick my favorite and mail you something fun.... I promise it will be good and I will be sure to post the winner.
So please let my first RAK be a success and post a comment, even if you don't have a helpful hint! I would of course love to send something to my faithful commenter's, but it would be nice to hear from some of you that normally do not comment.
Thanks & Happy Commenting!

Yeah, I love raks!!!! How about cleaning windows/mirrors with newspaper to avoid streaks. It's an old trick my grandma uses.

when i was in senior high, i borrowed a pair of my friend's brand new jeans. during math class, i was itching my knee with my pen - when i realized the cap was off! i had pen all over my friend's pants. so i went to our 'laundry lady' at the school and asked her what to do. she suggested putting hairspray on the ink and then washing it.
i did. and it worked like a charm. my friend didn't know until a few weeks later when i came 'clean' about the incident!
so hairspray takes ink out of clothes! i suggest using a spritz bottle and not an aerosol can.
this is a BOOK - sorry!
OK here are a few that one cn use with vineger.
VINEGAR--- :) cairra
"White vinegar is good for cleaning the winter salt off of shoes and boots. Just dip a cotton ball in vinegar and wipe the shoes or boots."
"Vinegar keeps clothes from fading. One cup per laundry load."
"Baking soda & vinegar are my staple plumbing tools. Sprinkle baking soda in drains, then pour vinegar and voila! Your troubles literally bubble down the drain."
"Got pesky nats and fruit flies? Apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap in a small glass. Gnats and flies are attracted to the smell of the vinegar and soap kills them."
"Have a greasy stove top? Pour about 1/4 or less of white vinegar and using paper towels wipe the entire top of the stove (but not the gas jets). The odor dissipates immediately and the paper towel odor disappears as soon as it dries."
"White vinegar is good for nails with fungus. After cleaning the nail, wet the nail with a vinegar-soaked cotton ball andlet it dry. Repeat every day or after a shower."
"Vinegar does an awesome job of getting rid of getting rid of the nasty smell if your children vomit on the rug or other fabric. Just use a rag dampened with vinegar as you clean up. I learned this tip from a pediatrician."
"For athlete's foot relief, pour a cup of apple cider vinegar over foot morning and night for two days. Do not soak in it, just pour it over area. Stops itch immediately."
"If you ever have to paint galvanized metal, wash it first with white vinegar. It works almost as well as muriatic acid and is much safer to have around the house."
"White vinegar is useful as a fabric softener. Use one cup in the final rinse and trappeddetergent will be released. The laundry will be soft and fluffy, and no, there is not any vinegar odor in the fabrics."
"Use vinegar on sneakers after whitening them with chlorine to completely neutralize the clorine. It prevents yellowing and kills lingering foot odor. Vinager neutralizes the ammonia that can burn your skin in leather or canvas sneakers. Rinse with water after applying vinegar."
I have another one with vinager:)
Instead of using Jet Dry in your dishwasher use vinager. Plus vinager is a lot cheaper then Jet Dry.

here are a couple...
A handful of rice grains in your salt shaker will keep the rice from sticking in the humid summer months.
Deodorant on a mosquito bite takes the itch away.
Clean bathroom mirror with shaving cream (foam) to prevent "shower fog-up"
To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to boil on stove top.
my favorite...
Mommy's kisses ALWAYS make boo boo's feel better :)
oops...
A handful of rice grains in your salt shaker will keep the SALT from sticking in the humid summer months.
Removing a Tick:
I just heard this one, but have not had the enjoyment of trying it yet (hopefully won't have to), but thought it sounded interesting.
Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20), the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.
Wonder if it really works...

Another tip for windows is wash the outside using vertical strokes and the inside using horizontal strokes, then you can tell which side has the streaks.
For crayon marks on walls, a damp rag dipped in baking soda.
When you get a splinter reach for the scotch tape instead of the tweezers. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

OK...haven't tried this yet but have heard it works great. Use liquid fabric softner when cleaning paint brushes (for latex paint). It suppose to cut the cleaning time in half!
Hope someone can use this one!

Use powdered dishwasher detergent and warm water to clean wood floors.
If you get candle wax on your carpet, let it dry, place a brown paper bag on top, and use a hot iron on top of the paper bag.
I agree with the newspaper on the window...that's what we do. Wash windows with a water/vinegar mix and then dry and shine with newspaper. Works great and doesn't leave streaks!
